Welcome back for the first Nintendo Download of October 2020! We have three featured games this time, and a couple of major Nintendo DLC updates to mention. This Nintendo Download took a bit longer for me to get done due to the new layout you’ll see in some sections below. So I apologize for the minor delay this week.

Featured Games

The first featured item in today’s Nintendo Download is Super Mario Bros. 35. It’s a new game on Nintendo Switch online. You play the original Super Mario Bros., but the twist is that it works like Tetris 99, but with 35 players. You’ll be racing against the clock while sabotaging your foes in the hopes of being the first to the goal! You can earn extra time by taking out the enemies in the stage. The most bizarre and mind boggling aspect of this title is that it will only be available to play on Switch Online until March 31st, 2021! Here is the brand new launch trailer:

Next up, we have Rogue Company, which is also now free-to-play. It is a third-person, tactical action shooter that puts the fate of the world on your shoulders. You take on the role of an elite agent of Rogue Company. Each agent in the game has their own skills, and there are different game modes to play in.

Our third and final featured title for today is Japanese role-playing game, Ys Origin ($19.99). After the devastation of a demonic invasion, twin Goddesses must use their magic to return the inhabitants of legendary Ys back safely into the sky.  The demons are busy constructing Devil’s Tower to reach the humans. This is where you come in as a powerful mage who must look for the Goddesses in Devil’s Tower. Your magic prowess and swordsmanship are all that stands between the humans and disaster now!

DLC Updates

We have two DLC updates to mention today, the first of which is already out. It is the Animal Crossing: New Horizons fall update. You can now farm multiple types of pumpkins and use them to craft new Halloween-themed items to decorate your island paradise. Pumpkin starts can be bought at Nook’s Cranny (or from Leif year-round) and used to grow your own pumpkin patches. The update also adds new Halloween costumes to get you ready for trick-or-treat night. You can find them at the Mable Sisters’ shop this month. Along with these costumes, you can exchange Nook Miles for new eye colors and body paint. On Halloween night, all your neighbors will come together at the plaza. You’d better have stocked up beforehand on some candy from Nook’s Cranny to give them! Jack, the “czar of Halloween”, will also join the festivities, and he may have some surprises of his own in store!

A NEW CHALLENGER APPROACHES! The second DLC update we have to discuss is the next upcoming Super Smash Bros. Ultimate fighter! Arguably the most iconic indie character of all time is set to “Rock the Block!” in battle, as Minecraft’s Steve (and Alex) prepare to join the brawl! It appears the developers have put quite a lot of work into this, as Sakurai himself said in the teaser presentation that they reworked all stages for his abilities. This was unfortunately just a quick teaser presentation, with the full presentation coming at 7:30am PT/10:30am ET on Saturday. That’s just two days away.

Current Sales

This week in the Nintendo Download sales section, the Monster Hunter Franchise Sale is just ending this evening. The Sega 60th Anniversary Sale covered in last week’s Nintendo Download is still going on for a few more days, as is the Inti Creates Tokyo Game Show sale.

Note that all four of these games are rated “M for Mature”. Other franchises represented in this sale are Lost Horizon (2 games), Secret Files (4 games) and Let’s Sing (4 games). Michael Fontanini
Michael is a veteran gamer in his late 30s, who grew up around video games, with fond memories of the oldies like the NES, SNES, and N64 among others. He loves Nintendo, but also plays a lot of games on his PC. Michael also enjoys going for walks/bike rides, loves animals, and enjoys thunderstorms (and science in general). I love Nintendo but I also play a lot of game's on PC, many of which are on steam. My favorite Nintendo game's include Zelda, Metroid, and Smash Bros to name a few. On PC I love the Half-Life games, as well as most all of the Source Engine games just to name a few.
