Ys IX: Monstrum Nox | Visual

Falcom has announced a new title in the Ys franchise titled Ys IX: Monstrum Nox. The game is set to launch in Japan in 2019 for PlayStation 4. It takes place in a region named Baldeaux within a huge city called the “Prison City.” In this new adventure, you will meet people with supernatural abilities called “Monstrum.”

Many of the trademark actions the Ys series is known for will return including quick action battles with giant bosses. New actions will also be added to the game including “Supernatural Actions,” abilities of Monstrum that allow you to explore the area freely. There will also be other aspects such as “Guild Operations” which are located in the “Prison City” and much more.

You can check out the game’s story below as well as the prologue from the official website. (Translation via Gematsu)

Who are the “Monstrum” that have appeared in the city? What is the secret behind “Prison City?” And what of that redheaded adventurer Adol Christin?

I became someone other than myself. Have you ever that kind of dream?

I think about myself in that dream. Is this me, or is this not me?

Are dreams reality, or are reality dreams? I’ve reached an awfully simple answer.

“Whichever is fine.”

Which is true—or which is not true. Both are reality.
