A while back I did a review for Senran Kagura Reflexions. The base game only came with Asuka, but later Yomi, Ryona, Yumi, and Murasaki were all released as DLC. I had the chance to check out Yumi’s portion of this and I wanted to share my thoughts on it. I know she gets a lot of hate because she is very popular in Japan and not quite as much so here in the West. I think hanging out with her might just change some minds about her though, so let’s see.

The game plays exactly the same as it did with Asuka. You will give Yumi massages in order to break her free from the shinobi-barrier around her heart. I am not a huge fan of her from other entries in the series since I never thought they showed off her lighter side enough. I have to say, after playing these scenarios with her I actually started to like her quite a bit. I know these are dream sequences, but she’s not nearly as straight laced here. This is a huge improvement of her character and they should show this off more in the mainline games.

The dream fantasies here include some of the ones you saw in Asuka’s route, but most of these are new. They include a hot springs visit, deserted island, nun adventure, a festival trip and my favorite, newlywed Yumi. If you don’t agree that she’s 100% waifu material after that, then you can’t be convinced. I dunno what will convince you. The scenes will change up a bit depending on her mood and just like with Asuka some of these can get pretty crazy. The littler sister one especially is. Yumi is one wild imouto, let’s just say that!

This DLC runs $9.99 just like the base game, but you get just as much content as you did there. This is basically doubling the size of the game. She comes with a 9 outfit set and some accessories. There are also a couple other costume packs you can pick up for her. One of them is free and the other will set you back $4.99 and contains: Yumi’s Outfit, Yumi’s Swimsuit, Gessen Uniform, Yukata, Bath Towel. These are not needed for you to fully enjoy this, but if you wanna have some fun with Yumi in Bath Towel, now’s your chance.

I have to say I had a great time with Yumi. Spending time with her has greatly improved my opinion of her overall. She may act really serious most of the time, but when she cuts loose she is a pure joy to see in action. If you’re a fan of Yumi this is a must have addition to Senran Kagura Reflexions. You will love every minute with her. Also for those that don’t like her, I encourage you to give her a chance here. I know she gets a bit oversaturated in the series, but this really shows off a much cuter side of her. Kinda like how the first episode of the new anime, Senran Kagura Shinovi Master does. I think you’ll be glad you gave her a second look for sure!

From the new anime!

Didn’t feel right to give each piece of DLC an individual score, so refer back to the main review if you’re interested.

About Steve Baltimore

Steve started with oprainfall not long after the campaign moved from the IGN forums to Facebook. Ever since, he has been fighting to give all non-mainstream RPGs a fair voice. As the site admin, he will continue to do this and even show there is value in what some would deem "pure ecchi." He loves niche games and anime more than anything... well, except maybe Neptune.
