During the Dengeki Game Festival 2018 at the “Dengeki Bunko 25th Anniversary & New Work Unveiling Stage,” a new anime adaptation for Kouhei Kadono and Kouji Ogata’s Boogiepop and Others light novel has been green-lit for 2018. The anime marks the 20th anniversary since the novel’s debut.

The voice cast for the anime is as follows:

  • Aoi Yūki as Tōka Miyashita/Boogiepop
  • Saori Ōnishi as Nagi Kirima

The Boogiepop and Others anime will be produced at Madhouse and directed by Shingo Natsume, the director of the first season of One Punch Man. Tomohiro Suzuki is in charge of the series scripts and Hidehiko Sawada will design the characters. Kensuke Ushio (agraph), who composed the music for A Silent Voice, will compose the music for this anime.

Seven Seas Entertainment describes the story as follows:

There is an urban legend that children tell about a shinigami that can release people from the pain they are suffering. This “Angel of Death” has a name–Boogiepop. And the legends are true. Boogiepop is real.

When a rash of disappearances involving female students breaks out at Shinyo Academy, the police and faculty assume they just have a bunch of runaways on their hands. Yet Nagi Kirima knows better. Something mysterious and foul is afoot. Is it Boogiepop or something even more sinister…?

The first anime, Boogiepop Phantom, aired from January 5, 2000 to March 22, 2000. It was also produced by Madhouse.
