Not too long ago I wrote about New Wave Toys and their RepliCade X cabinets, specifically Centipede, and discussed how novel and interesting this item was. Turns out, I wasn’t the only one who was intrigued, since in the first 24 hours of their Kickstarter campaign, they reached 200% funding! In honor of hitting the $100,000 milestone, New Wave Toys has a new surprise – another RepliCade X game cabinet! This time it’s for Tempest, another truly iconic title. If you are interested in helping back the project, you’re in luck, as there are still 21 days left! Who knows what other classic titles might get the RepliCade X treatment?

To find more specifics about the cabinets, just read below.

RepliCade X | Tempest

The RepliCade X Tempest is a 1/6-scale replica of the original Tempest arcade cabinet, including miniaturized Spinner controls. Backers of the RepliCade X Centipede Kickstarter campaign will receive a discount code for RepliCade X Tempest when pre-orders open later this year.

RepliCade Amusements is a collection of fully-playable, original arcade videogames housed inside 12” tall wooden cabinets that faithfully recreate the arcade experience in miniature. Each cabinet features a blend of traditional design and materials infused with modern technology:

  • 3.5” LCD screen in vertical orientation (4:3 aspect ratio)
  • Lithium ion rechargeable battery
  • LED back lighting
  • RepliCade high-performance chipset for smooth, lag-free gameplay

New Wave Toys is partnering with Atari on its first miniature cabinet RepliCade X Centipede. The product will feature the original arcade ROM housed in an authentically recreated wood and metal cabinet complete with Centipede’s iconic control systems reproduced in 1/6 scale.

The RepliCade X Centipede cabinet will also feature the game’s iconic arcade artwork recreated in brilliant, high-resolution detail as taken directly from Atari’s in-house collection of original artwork.

Regular-priced units will be available for $160 directly from New Wave Toys website after the conclusion of the Kickstarter campaign. Quantities allowing, RepliCade units will also be available at select retailers worldwide beginning in mid-2018.
