About The Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel
Originally released for the PlayStation®3 computer entertainment system and PlayStation®Vita handheld entertainment system in 2015, The Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel will make its debut on Windows PC this summer with over 5,000 new lines of voiceover dialogue (approximately a 50% increase).

The Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel builds on Nihon Falcom’s beloved Trails franchise, improving on the series’ formula while delivering an expertly told, standalone narrative that both series fans and newcomers alike will enjoy. Taking place on the same continent as fan-favorite Trails in the Sky, Trails of Cold Steel further explores Erebonia and gives players a chance to delve deep into the inner political conflicts of this oft-mentioned and powerful empire. Players take on the role of elite military students at a time of great turmoil, who enjoy school life as they bond with fellow students to earn new abilities in battle, and then utilize those abilities via tactical turn-based combat. In between skirmishes, players can upgrade their party members with the “ARCUS” system – a streamlined version of the classic “Orbment” magic system from previous titles – allowing for greater access to abilities and quicker customization.

About The Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky the 3rd
Half a year after the events of Trails in the Sky Second Chapter, Liberl has settled into peace once again—but even during peaceful times, there are many among the distinguished and fortunate burning with greed thanks to the influence of ancient artifacts. Most of the population remains unaware of their abuses of power, but to the most enigmatic order of the beloved Septian Church, the Gralsritter, snuffing out these would-be villains and claiming artifacts in their name is as everyday as professing one’s faith in the Goddess.

On the eve of another successfully completed mission, high-ranking member Father Kevin Graham is immediately assigned to retrieve one more artifact that rests beneath Grancel Cathedral. What’s more, even though this is a task he could easily complete on his own, he must reluctantly do so in partnership with his newest recruit, rookie Gralsritter and childhood friend Sister Ries Argent. Thus begins the start of a routine mission that becomes anything but, delving into a new and mysterious realm that follows an unnaturally strict set of rules: Phantasma. Therein, the history of the Septian Church and the pasts of the many familiar faces who took up arms for the sake of Liberl’s future will be laid bare – and some may have been better off staying forever sealed behind closed doors.

Widely considered the most challenging title in the series, players are encouraged to iterate upon the combat style they’ve come to know in the 3rd’s predecessors by either enjoying its in-depth story on Easy or crying with frustration on its unforgiving Nightmare difficulty. The brilliant music that the Trails in the Sky series is known for also returns, adding dozens of memorable new tracks as players work their way through the mysterious new realm of Phantasma.

  • Day one.

  • Panpopo

First of all, this is great for PC players. However, this may set a precedent from the Cold Steel announcement:

-Buying on console has four benefits: you get to play it immediately (PC may not get it same day), you get a physical copy, for ease of use (plug and play), and portability (but I know Vita won’t be around much longer).

-If it doesn’t satisfy the above for you, and you are willing to wait, you will get the definitive version on PC. These 5,000 extra lines will not be on the PS3/Vita versions, probably due to licensing costs of doing so. There is no need to get a console game from XSeed if the above sets a precedent.

-Trails of Cold Steel 3 will certainly be ported to PC. Probably not day one, but it will happen. If you wait, you may get the definitive version then. I do not have infinite time to play these games again, so I will probably wait for that game on PC.

I’m not upset of course, but looks to be the reality. I am glad to play the games, but the amount of people that will ACTUALLY double dip on Cold Steel will probably not be much. IMO only get Legend of Heroes on PC, as that seems to be the best platform (as one in a trilogy is exclusive to it).

    • Zeonis

I already bought Cold Steel I & II for PS3 so I will not buy them for PC. If they release them for PS4 though I will buy them again.

    • Panpopo

Ah. A Trails of Cold Steel 1&2 collection on PS4 is possible, if anything to promote the 3rd game. If they do this, I wonder if it will include the extra voiced lines or not, since the extra lines came from XSeed not Falcom.

    • Zeonis

If they bring them to PS4 they better include the extra voiceover lines.

    • Zeonis

As far as Trails in the Sky the 3rd being exclusive to PC I hope that changes and they port it to PS4. I know probably not likely but I can dream.

    • DOUGHNUTS ARE AMAZING

Falcom should port all the series to PS4 and Switch. But the base versions, not Evolution, so we can actually get them localised.

    • Panpopo

I would be very happy if all the Trails in Sky games were on PS4, but I can’t see that happening soon or XSeed probably would have said something as people ask them all the time. XSeed has stated many times that the 3rd game is not coming to Vita so this is entirely up to Falcom.

    • Zeonis

I am not sure how much the Vita version is changed from the original so I think I would prefer the original but I still wish we were getting it.

    • Steve Baltimore

I will not buy another console version of these game from XSEED. I will support the series on PC from this point forward.

    • DOUGHNUTS ARE AMAZING

I wish you weren’t right, but you most likely are.

The other alternative is that hackers will patch the PS3/Vita versions with the new dubbing, so those with hacked systems can play the game with this new voice acting. Not officially but that’s what will happen. Likewise the PSP version of Sora 3rd getting patched with XSEED’s translation, likewise Zero and Ao if they ever get localised. Where there’s a will, there’s a way.

The PS3/Vita versions should be getting this VO as a patch, though as XSEED are developing the PC version themselves and not co-developing it with Falcom like on console it’s likely they won’t.

They’ve made another mistake alongside passing on Luminous Arc Infinity, Uppers and Net High.

    • Panpopo

Yeah, having it patched in unofficially makes sense. Wish it was done officially simply due to ease of use, but yeah if there’s a will and demand for it it will happen.
