Studio BONES has announced that it will be producing a new series of films in the Eureka Seven series, titled Koukyoushen Eureka Seven Hi-Evolution (Psalms of Planets Eureka Seven Hi-Evolution). The first of the three movies is set to open in Japanese theaters later this year, with the following two movies following in 2018 and 2019.

The announcement was accompanied by a short teaser video, featuring the song “Acperience 7” by German electronic music duo Hardfloor, a group referenced several times in the original series:

The movies will start a decade prior to the story of the original Eureka Seven anime aired in 2005, with the First Summer of Love event alluded to in that series. It will continue to follow the original’s story, with a new ending. The movies will feature redone animation, re-recorded voice lines, and even new scenes. The trilogy will see the return of a large portion of the original series’ staff, including chief director Tomoki Kyoda, character designer Kenichi Yoshida and composer Naoki Sato, among others.
