Conclusion

The announcement of Hakuoki is big news for fans of Idea Factory International, even if you’re not a fan of Otome. It’s a great indicator of just how well the company is doing and the types of things we can look forward to in the future. I think we’re starting to enter an era where more and more niche Japanese games are going to make the trip to the West. Japanese developers are seeing that there’s a larger market here than they thought and they’re becoming more willing to invest in it. At the same time, we as gamers need to be willing to invest in them. It should go without saying, but remember to pick up these games if they interest you. Be willing to try new things, and at the least tell these companies what you like about them. We can only continue to get new experiences like this if we show that we want them. It’s always easy for us to complain when we don’t get something, but I don’t often see people thank developers or publishers for the things they like. So if Hakuoki is something you’ve been waiting for, then be sure to thank them. While you’re at it, be sure to thank Aksys Games, who has been a major part of this franchise’s expansion in the West, as well. Things wouldn’t be the same without them, just like Neptunia wouldn’t be as popular as it is without NIS America bringing over the first game. Until next time everyone, thanks and take care!

So yes, even if the prospect of Otome doesn’t excite you, the fact that IFI is starting to localize more of it is a good thing. If that’s not your thing, however, rest assured there are other games coming, and I’m pretty sure we’ll be seeing Nepgear as an adorable mage eventually.
