Caligula gameplay footage

Publisher FuRyu has released the first gameplay footage for Caligula, an upcoming RPG by Tadashi Satomi, the scenario writer for the early Persona games. The footage comes courtesy of the Dengeki Games Festival currently ongoing in Japan.

The six minutes of gameplay footage show off conversations with some of the 500-odd students inhabiting the game’s world of Mobius, each of which has a name and full profile. It also shows off the game’s “Imaginary Chain” combat system, which revolves around visualizing a “fantasy” to see beforehand how your attacks will play out, as well as enemy actions, allowing you to anticipate how the round of combat will end.

The footage can be seen here. The actual gameplay can be found at 28:56 and again at 33:10:

Caligula follows students trapped in a virtual world known as Mobius, where all inhabitants indefinitely live high school lives as ideal students. One particular group forms the “Going Home Club”, with the ultimate goal of escaping from Mobius. The world is created and controlled by “µ”, a man-made vocal software.

Caligula is set for release in Japan on June 23, 2016, and will sell for 6,980 yen, approximately $60 USD. Pre-orders will include a code for a swimsuit costume package, an art booklet, a full soundtrack CD, and tickets for a special event. It is being developed by Aquria and published by FuRyu. The official website for the game can be found here. No word has been given so far on a localization.
