Sentai Filmworks  has announced that they have licensed Phantasy Star Online 2: The Animation. This is an original story based in the world of Sega’s role-playing game, Phantasy Star Online 2. Sentai Filmworks will release the series digitally and on physical media.

PSO 2: The Animation will be directed by Keiichiro Kawaguchi who has worked on Hayate the Combat Butler and Psychic Squad. Mitsutaka Hirota will be the writer, who has previously worked on X-Men and Persona 4 The Animation.

Phantasy Star Online 2 is a free-to-play role-playing game for PC released in 2012 in Japan and has since been released on PlayStation Vita and Mobile phones, with a future release scheduled for the PlayStation 4.

Phantasy Star Online 2: The Animation will premier on January 7 in Japan.

If only Sentai Filmworks published games, amirite!?
