For those of you who haven’t heard yet, Don’t Starve is receiving a new expansion called Don’t Starve: Shipwrecked. It launched today on Steam Early Access at a 10% discount, setting it at the cheap price of $4.49 (U.S. dollars) on Steam. The Don’t Starve: Shipwrecked expansion will be discounted by 10% up until December 8th. That gives you one week to take advantage of the discount before the price goes to $4.99. This new expansion for Don’t Starve is a collaboration between Klei Entertainment and CAPY (creators of Superbrothers: Sword and Sworcery).

In Don’t Starve: Shipwrecked, players will find themselves stranded on a tropical archipelago after, well, a shipwreck of course! This new environment is filled with new creatures, biomes, and seasons which will force players to learn to survive all over again in this new world. You will find new sources of food as well as new resources to use to your advantage. Players will also be able to craft an array of new gadgets to help them survive in a world where everything wants to kill them. For example, you can craft a boat and set sail, but the water isn’t safe either! Check out the Don’t Starve: Shipwrecked launch trailer:

Naturally, some of you may be wondering if this new expansion works with Don’t Starve Together, and the answer for the time being is: no. Klei Entertainment has, however, said that the idea of it working with Don’t Starve Together is “an awesome idea.” They have also said:

“The early access version of the game is fully playable, but there is still some work to be done. The initial version contains new seasons, creatures, biomes, and many other exciting ways to die. As always, during early access we will be releasing regular updates containing new content as well as tweaks and bug fixes based on your input.”

The Steam store page for the expansion also says they want to add more new characters along the way as well. If you love Don’t Starve and haven’t played it in a while, you now have a reason to dive back in and survive anew in Don’t Starve: Shipwrecked, while avoiding the horde of new creatures that are out to end you. Can you survive in this cruel new world?

About Michael Fontanini

Michael is a veteran gamer in my early 30s, who grew up around video games, with fond memories of the oldies like the NES and SNES. He loves Nintendo but also plays a lot of games on his PC. Michael also enjoys going for walks or bike rides, and loves animals.

Michael is also a computer programmer. This started with a toy he got as a kid called PreComputer 1000 that was made by V-Tech. It had a simple programming mode which is what started him down the road of being a programmer! Michael can program in BASIC, Visual Basic, C++, C#, and is familiar with Java and Lua Script.

Putting programming and gaming together, Michael became a hobbyist game developer which may give him some good insights on game development! Most recently, he has been playing with the free version of the Unity engine (a powerful and easy-to-use game engine).

I love Nintendo but I also play a lot of game's on PC, many of which are on steam. My favorite Nintendo game's include Zelda, Metroid, and Smash Bros to name a few. On PC I love the Half-Life games, as well as most all of the Source Engine games just to name a few.
