Today is a good day for RPG news. Square Enix has revealed today that they are planning on bringing Star Ocean: Second Evolution, the remake of the Star Ocean: The Second Story. This upgraded version will be a PSP remake, so good news to those of us who have a Vita or PS4. It’s especially nice since the original release of Second Evolution was 5 years ago. According to the Tokyo Game Show, the release is also imminent, though no exact date was specified.

Star Ocean Second Evolution | Cutscene

The story, which takes place 20 years after the original, contends with the adventures of Claude C. Kenny and Rena Lanford, on the planet of Expel. It takes many standard conventions of the RPG genre and turns them on their head, as a couple of simple mistakes turns Claude into the fabled Hero of Light. Though I haven’t personally played any games in the series, I am of course familiar with the Star Ocean brand. Perhaps now is as good a time as any to think about getting into the games. Let us know if you’re excited for the game in the comments section below!
