A new trailer has surfaced for Persona 5. The trailer showed the the long awaited RPG title has been delayed until Summer 2016. Persona 5 was announced in 2013 and was originally supposed to be released this Winter in Japan and soon after in the West.

Here’s the Trailer:

Persona 5 is being developed for the PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4.

[UPDATE]

Atlus has sent out a Press Release:

TOKYO and IRVINE, Calif. — Sept. 17, 2015 — There’s no easy way to say it, so we’ll be blunt. Persona 5 will not release in 2015. The next numbered entry of the Persona franchise will now release in Japan and the Americas in 2016.
The strengths of the Persona series are compelling characters, a moving, relatable story, and a borderline obsession with minutiae – elements which can’t be rushed or taken lightly. So while ATLUS realizes the frustration and disappointment that this must cause for the JRPG-loving public, please know that we are delaying the game in order to make sure the next iteration of the Persona series lives up to the expectations of fans.
Persona 5 will be released in 2016 exclusively on the PlayStation®4 and PlayStation®3 systems.
I for one will be glad to give them the time they need to deliver the best possible version of Persona 5.

LOL, and after they insisted so much that it’d be in 2015, but they couldn’t give a release date. They should have just told the truth that it was delayed. Better than lying about it, and getting burned down the road.

you obviously didn’t read “The strengths of the Persona series are compelling characters, a moving, relatable story, and a borderline obsession with minutiae – elements which can’t be rushed or taken lightly.” they are making a product for us who would “burn” them for wanting more time?

    • Justin Kersey

I *did* read that. My quarrel is with Atlus firmly denying that this exact thing would happen mere weeks before this announcement. If you want to take more time to polish things, cool. But lying about it kinda lingers with people for a while.

  • Wolfe

I don’t think there was every any doubt from the majority of fans.

    • JDobbs

Funny how the last time we discussed the Persona 5 release date, I had hinted Atlus was likely going to be forced to move the date to 2016 despite their insistence on a 2015 release.

    • Wolfe

I don’t believe we’ve spoken before. If so, I certainly do not recall it.

    • JDobbs

I wrote an article back when Atlus made the infamous “Persona 5 will come out in 2015” quote. I should have been a bit clearer on the we meaning oprainfall.

    • Wolfe

      Ah, sorry for the misunderstanding!

  • JDobbs

I knew it. I called it. I told you all it was going to be delayed to 2016.
