Publisher Curve Digital and developer Roll7 are closing on Xbox and Nintendo releases for their 2D twitch arcade skateboarding game, OlliOlli. When it releases on Wii U and 3DS, Curve has something special: the game will be cross buy. If you buy one port, you get the other for free. All you’ll need is a Nintendo Network ID.

Curve has done cross buy for a number of games on PSN so this type of things isn’t new territory for them. However, it is pretty difficult to find games on the eShop that are cross buy. The best you’ll generally get for games that release on both 3DS and Wii U (digitally) is a discount for the second version.

OlliOlli releases on Wii U and 3DS next week on March 5th. It will also release on Xbox One on March 6th. This comes two days after the sequel, OlliOlli2, releases on PSN.

You can read the full press release here. Check out some of the images from the game below.

Hopefully this first step into cross-buy between the Wii U and 3DS leads to more in the future. Dragon Fantasy would be a good choice. It would be great if, now that it’s possible, developers started applying cross-buy to older games too, like Citizens of Earth and Mighty Switch Force 2. Maybe someday we’ll even get cross-buy for our Virtual Console games.
