Super Mario Galaxy 2 - Nintendo Download

The Wii Virtual Console is now a thing with yesterday’s release of Super Mario Galaxy 2. Over the next two weeks, we will see releases for Punch-Out!! and Metroid Prime Trilogy for the service with hopefully many more games coming.

Well, three systems down (NES, SNES, Wii), two more to go (GameCube, N64).

Also this week, Electronic Super Joy: Groove City makes its Wii U debut. Meanwhile, the 3DS will be getting 3D After Burner II, the first of a new wave of SEGA 3D Classics. The 3DS also receives Lufia: The Legend Returns on the Virtual Console.

Sales and price drops are happening this week with numerous LEGO games getting a price cut. For sales, the Wii U and 3DS are holding a Throwback sale for pairs of games in the same series, such as Mario, Yoshi, and Pushmo. In addition, the Wii U will also hold the Indie Connection Sale #2, featuring Guacamelee!, SteamWorld Dig, Runner 2, and many others at 60% off.

You can check out the press release here for more details. You can also check out the gallery of releases below.

One question: are the DL’d Wii games running at 480p or 1080p?

    • Santuli

If I had to guess, 480p, cause I heard when you play them, it still sort of goes into Wii Mode, as if you were putting in a Wii disc, going into the Wii Mode option, and booting it up. It just does it automatically for you.
