Final Fantasy Type-0 | oprainfall

Edit: An earlier version of this article stated that Type-0 would be available for the Vita, based on an old version of the cited blog post’s headline. It has been confirmed that the game is coming to PS4 and Xbox One, but not the Vita.

Fans asked, and Square Enix has finally, finally answered. Final Fantasy Type-0 is on its way to Xbox One and PlayStation 4 in North America and Europe — and it’s going to be in HD. Sakura Minamida, Senior Product Manager over at Square Enix, had this to say on the PlayStation Blog today:

I’d like to start this out by thanking everyone who let us know how badly you wanted this game to come to North America. Ever since the original PlayStation Portable release in Japan, you guys have never given up on it, raising your voices in an effort to see this title come to North America and Europe. Well, I’m here to tell you that it’s coming and it’s going to be in HD.

Stay tuned for more details in the future.

The recently released Final Fantasy Agito trailer also briefly mentions the Type-0 release near the end.

Was this an announcement you expected in the midst of this year’s E3? Was this an announcement you expected at all, or had you never given up hope? As always, your comments are welcome.

    It’s not coming to Vita.

  • Joshua J. Slone

I wonder why those systems specifically. As a port from PSP it would work fine on X360/PS3/3DS/WiiU, and at least in 3/4 of those cases they have much higher userbases.

  • Another_Unknown

Too bad isn’t coming to Xbox 360. But at least SE started (I said, started…) to listen his fans.

    • Colin Vance

because japan games do bad on that console. xbox 360 is for skyrim dudebro games and fps

    • Another_Unknown

I have to disagree. Tales of Vesperia (360) is the second best selling Tales of outside of Japan, only losing to Tales of Symphonia (GC). This game also, sold better than any PS3 tales of outside of Japan. Record of Agarest Wars (360) is the best selling game of this franchise in the world. Star Ocean: Last Hope(360) sold better than PS3 version. These are some examples of japanese games that had more success in 360 than in PS3. Of course, not all japanese games had success in 360, but to say that Xbox 360 is only for FPS and “american games” is dumb.

Also, most of JRPGs already do bad in PS3 outside of Japan, even being an exclusive.

Those games are many years old on the 360. Name some Japanese games that have come out in the last 4 years for the 360.

    • Another_Unknown

Persona 4 Arena, Catherine, Record of Agarest Wars Zero, Dark Souls and Dark Souls 2, Dynasty Warriors Gundam 3, Dynasty Warriors 7 and 8, Dead or Alive 5 and DOA 5 Ultimate, BlazBlue Continuum Shift II and Shift Extend, The King of Fighters XIII, Naruto Shippuden Ultimate Ninja Storm 2 and onwards, etc.

Also, Persona 4 Arena Ultimate and Naruto Shippuden Ultimate Ninja Storm Revolution are going to be released in 360 in this year.

I find it so odd this won’t be on Vita. Of all the places I expected this game to go, I was sure it would end up there at the very least.

    • Thanatos2k

Vita sales are terrible. They want to make money.

    • Tyrannikos

There is a very large crowd of players that would very likely buy this game on the Vita. It wouldn’t be that much of a challenge to release it on Vita alongside consoles.

As it stands, the “they want to make money” argument doesn’t hold up. Many players have already imported and played the game. Many others are going to use the free fan translation.

    • Thanatos2k

That’s why they’re making an HD remaster. Now those people might buy the game again.

    • ffboi7

Its most likely coming to Vita already I mean Shahid Ahmad the guy behind the JRPGVITA campaign on Twitter accidentally tweeted about it prematurely so its more then likely a thing their just not ready to announce it yet.

I love Shahid. Hope he can make it come true.

  • Welp, guess I’m getting a PS4 now.

  • Jeremy Collum

i have no ps4 or xboxone and that makes me sad because otherwise this announcement makes me very happy it’s just awesome and i didn’t expect it at all!

  • Dillon

This is stupid and dumb. Square Enix is not even makng new things anymore and they are just trying to use an HD port to make people buy the ps4. The game can easily be played on a vita or ps3. Why are they skipping out? It’s a psp game !

    • Eric

It’s an HD remake, not just a port. It’s going to take time to develop. If they make it for the PS3, they’ll have the same localization problem they ran into the first time around: the game came out too late in the system’s life cycle to be worth releasing. Assuming this comes out in Japan first, it’ll probably be 2016 before we see it, at which point most people would have moved on from PS3.

    • ffboi7

They’re looking at it from a business stand point. What platforms will gamers most likely be playing by next year when this game will probably be released. The PS4 and Xbox One. Just look at E3 right now, there wasn’t a single mention of 360 or PS3 games during the Sony & Microsoft conference. Most likely by the beginning of next year both companies will be phasing their last gen consoles out slowly and focus solely on the PS4 and Xbox One. So yes it sucks, but Square is looking at which consoles Type-0 will most likely sell on when gets released. Plus there’s always a chance a Vita version is still coming so don’t count it out yet.

  • Thanatos2k

Well hot damn. 5 years too late, but at least it finally made it.

  • jdt12

Won’t by it since the team doing the english translation is almost done. Project complete on august 8 so screw you Square for not doing it on vita!

    • ffboi7

Yes lets not support the game everyone has been asking for since its release in Japan. Lets pirate the game and show Square-Enix that games like this shouldn’t get localized and released over here since it won’t be on the platform of our choice. Because clearly that’s the best option when it comes to getting the games we want.

  • Johhny Ridden

I didn’t buy a PS4 to play PSP ports. And I’m not paying $60 for a $20 HD port of a PSP game, which has been confirmed to have no new content (rather, SE removed the multiplayer) and a 3 hour long demo.

SE should have just released the game on the PS3 if they were concerned about the PS Vita sales.
