Not too long ago, Sonic Lost World fans were surprised when Iwata announced a unique set of free Sonic and Nintendo crossover downloadable content packs planned for the Wii U version of the game. As previously noted, the first round of DLC was in celebration of Yoshi’s Island. It featured Sonic running around in a setting you’d probably find in Yoshi’s Story or Yoshi’s New Island. In that same Nintendo Direct, Iwata teased the next round of DLC and something about a “link.”
I never could have imagined something like this, though. The footage you’re seeing, courtesy of IGN, is from the Legend of Zelda Zone—the second planned Nintendo crossover downloadable content pack. It’s coming our way tomorrow (so I guess you just got a peek at the headliner of the Nintendo Download this week). As you can see, it’s kind of an adventure-style zone in comparison to other levels; it definitely seems far away from conventional Sonic Lost World gameplay. It’s got all kinds of Zelda allusions packed in, including familiar characters and even the replacement of Sonic’s rings with hearts (like in Zelda).
I don’t think there’s anything else worth elaborating on, since I don’t want to spoil things for those eager to experience this content for themselves. Still, I’ll remind you that this is free content for Sonic Lost World that will be available to you as soon as you download it, and it probably goes along with the last one’s premise of needing 10,000 points added to your score in order to unlock it again for repeat play-throughs.
Stay tuned for more information, screenshots and features straight from Nintendo when they release tomorrow’s full Download press release! Anyone excited? I know I am. Check out my review of the Wii U version of Sonic Lost World if you haven’t seen it yet!
