oprainfall Awards | oprainfall Reader's Game of the Year

Remember how I said that we would have a surprise for you today? Well, here it is: The first oprainfall Reader’s Game of the Year Award.

We wanted to know what your favorite game from this past year was. So, in order to accomplish that, we’ve come up with a list of 150 video games that have been well received by the gaming media as well as the oprainfall staff. All games that are listed released between January 1st and December 31st of 2013. You may vote for up to 10 games.

While we won’t remove a game just because it was unpopular with the masses, we will remove games if we accidentally got the release date wrong for the game. Also, if a game that was in your Top 10 isn’t on our list, let us know in the comments and we’ll add it into the poll.

The poll will remain open from now through January 14th. At Midnight PT on the 15th, the poll will close and we will open a new poll featuring the Top 10 from the Preliminary vote. The Finals vote will go on through January 21st, with the winner revealed during our oprainfall Awards posts.

Other than that, it’s pretty much up to you how you want to vote. If you want to vote for only original games rather than vote for any remakes or if you think that there aren’t 10 games that deserve your nod for Game of the Year, that’s fine.

The poll closes in two weeks. Happy voting!

Joining in for E3 2012, he worked his way up the ranks quickly, making it to the Editing Manager post at the beginning of 2013. Jeff has a wide variety of tastes when it comes to gaming and pretty much likes anything that is quirky, although his favorite genres are Action, Platforming, and RPG. Outside of gaming, Jeff is a musician, being trained as a trombonist for Jazz and Classical music, and holds a degree in Sound Recording.

Ha, you know what I hate most is that I know there are games that would make my top whatever list that I just haven’t gotten around to playing through yet, eg. The Stanley Parable, Fire Emblem Awakening, Grand Theft Auto V, and so on. I don’t think it’d be right in picking those, so. But cool idea, guys, I got my 10 in anyway.

    Feliz ano novo, Op Rainfall.

  • Project X Zone. Lol, come on.

    • Zelpok

Well, the storyline may be terrible, the graphics mediocre, the battles way too easy, and the new characters not terribly creative and original, but it’s still an okay game. Gotta admit, I really only play it for the characters and the soundtrack though.

The Guided Fate Paradox isn’t on this list, I thought that was pretty good.

    • Jeff Neuenschwander

Well, there are bound to be some that slipped through the cracks. I’ll add it in (and I’ll also include the two others you mentioned).

    • Jeff Neuenschwander

Okay, the games you’ve mentioned have been added in at the end. Happy Voting.

And Kingdom Hearts 1.5 Remix, and Soul Calibur Online as long as hd remakes count.

Both Hyperdimension Neptunia Victory and Time and Eternity were games I really liked that were released this year. Yes I thought Time and Eternity was overhated and it was one of my personal favorites from this year. Otherwise in terms of what is available, I voted for Senran Kagura Burst, Pandora’s Tower, and Wind Waker HD (despite only playing the original version, regardless that is enough for me to know it’s awesome). Dragon Fantasy Book 2 I played but I don’t know If I would say it is GOTY material although it is still a good game. And Corpse Party I would easily give my vote to if it were the original Corpse Party, but it was Corpse Party Book of Shadows that was released this year and it wasn’t as good. A lot of the other obvious choices I are games I have yet to play.

    • Jeff Neuenschwander

Well, if you want, I can add Time and Eternity to the list. I just added HD Neptunia Victory because I did forget about that.

    • Iyamtebist

I guess adding Time and Eternity would not be too necessary unless others would actually vote for it. Obviously I doubt it would make it past the preliminaries but then again neither would most games listed. So I guess I would like to see it added.

    • Jeff Neuenschwander

Alright, then. I’ve gone ahead and added it.

  • Lord Ackercocke

Go go Fire Emblem!!! Good to see it voted so highly.

The Last of Us is my Game of The Year. No other game this year hit me as hard. It feels like the only game I played in 2013 that will really stick with me.
