Ladies and gentlemen, I think Christopher Walken said it best with this little gem:

“Wow! Wowee wow wow wow!”

And that pretty much sums up what I have to say about Monster Hunter 4‘s launch in this week’s Media Create charts. Chalk up another killer app for the 3DS. And from reports, we should see that number go well above 2,000,000 next week. I believe this calls for a victory shot.

Reggie as Rocky | Media Create

No, not that one.

Iwata with Luigis | Media Create

Not that one either.

Bill Trinen | Media Create

There we go.

And while we’re at it, I’d like to say just one thing. Please, Nintendo, help Capcom localize this game for Western audiences.

Actually, we on the oprainfall staff are pretty much in agreement that the game will see a release in North American and PAL regions. However, it will probably take about a year to a year-and-a-half to release over here. We’ll see.

To be honest, aside from the 200,000+ spike in 3DS sales and 1.7 million units moved for MH4, this week kind of looks like a down week. Other than MH4, no game sold above 30,000 units. And other consoles didn’t fair too well, either. Then again, if you have a game that everyone wants to buy, the incentive to buy anything else kind of drops.

But it’s kind of sad that neither the Wii U nor the PS Vita has that killer app that can drive people to the stores like that. When Pikmin 3 was released, console sales barely moved. Vita sales did spike when they had the price drop, but they haven’t really had that one game that would drive people to constantly buy the system. The 3DS has had at least three in the past year and even more before that. Here’s hoping they can both find that killer app.

  • Lightthrower

All on Capcom, Nintendo had nothing to do with all this. I still can’t believe this isn’t on Vita…

    • Roberto Ruiz Contreras

Vita is getting Monster Hunter Frontier G (the crappy online game)

    • Charlotte Buckingham

You think it looks crappy? I really want it to come Westward so I can give it a shot!

    • Jeff Neuenschwander

Perhaps, but it’s not like Nintendo wouldn’t celebrate a success on their console. Besides, the joke was more of a way to suck up to the localization team to get them to work on getting this game over here, ala Monster Hunter Tri on Wii.

  • James Best

I’m betting the WWHD Bundle might be the Wii U’s killer app. Anyway, congrats to Capcom, Monster Hunter, 3DS, and Nintendo on another runaway success!

  • RockMan.EXE

The Wii U’s killer app will be Monololith Soft’s “X”. I have no doubts. Defenitely the one game I am looking forward to beyond all other games. Pikmin 3 is a pretty fun title.

  • Spookyryu

Nintendo should to sign an exclusive with capcom for monster hunter 4 and 5 for wii u

  • HGa

Monster Hunter 4 has instantly becomes the feared for any Japanese handheld/console publisher who wants to publish their new games in the same week as MH4.
