After announcing Final Fantasy XV at the Sony press conference, Square Enix has now offered up some more details about the game. Final Fantasy XV is the rebranded version of Final Fantasy Versus XIII, which is being developed for the PlayStation 4 and the Xbox One. In a press release, Square Enix sheds some light on the details of the game and the new direction it will be taking.

The biggest change is that the game will now take advantage of the advancements coming with the new generation of consoles. While the initial plan for the story remains unchanged, Square Enix plans to use the capabilities of the PS4 and Xbox One to expand on Final Fantasy XV’s gameplay and graphics. Unlike most Final Fantasy games, which have predominantly turn-based battle systems, Final Fantasy XV will feature action RPG gameplay with some third-person-shooter elements.

In the press release, Square Enix also provided some more details about the game’s story. The Kingdom of Lucis suffers a crippling attack from the armed forces of Niflheim, forcing Crown Prince Noctis (the game’s protagonist), along with his comrades, out into the fight. Square Enix promises that the story to follow from these events will be will be engaging, featuring a rich world and the top notch storytelling we have come to expect from previous Final Fantasy titles.

Details about a possible release date have yet to be revealed.

    Needs more turn based!

Needs more placement on Wii U instead of trying to make the game on both PS4 and Xbone for the sake of making it look prettier. Wii U can run that engine, so there is no reason to not put it on the system.

    • Lasermaster

I agree. The game looks a lot like the Wii U is completely capable of running the game so I also do not see why they are not putting it on the system. It looks like Square Enix is also avoiding the Wii U. KH3 also did not vow me with its graphics and I think it should come on Wii U considering all but 1 non-numbered KH titles released on Nintendo consoles!

I agree as well, I don’t see why it couldn’t. ‘X’ and Watchdogs look just fine on the Wii U. If anything why can’t we get something akin to the original PS3 rendition on Wii U.

I honestly think that the Wii U is the best place for JRPGs because of lower development costs and the gamepad for quick access to items and skills.

this game was already in development as a action RPG long before being rebranded. cant go back now. but so what it uses an advanced kingdom hearts combat ssytem and im loving it.

Hopefully the battle system won’t just be mash the x button as fast as possible and everything dies

  • aelic7

It’s a lot like The Last Story, basically.

I didn’t really see other party members and their stats. Probably a lot less strategic.

  • Mizu D

Did they drop the PS3 version? 🙁

  • King Xbox Mart

OH LULZ! I can hear all the Sony Slaves and Nintendo Drones crying over Xbox One DOMINATION (and I don’t rule out Xbox One will be the superior version of this game).

Xbox One FTW! Kinect 2.0 is the future!

    • RagunaXL

nintendrones would have been clever. but whatever. we will go back to playing video games on our machines. first party exclusives even. check the pre-order numbers for an indication for any sort of ‘DOMINATION.’ So far, nothin’. Xbox is basically a high powered Ouya.

I am so, so, psyched 😀

Trying to remember since it been so long but I thought I read at some point that FF 13 VS (now FF15) will have a world map that you can explore. If that the case one of the biggest issues with that is managing ram. Now that they using Next Gen a lot more stuff can be tracked and pre-loaded. My guess is while from a graphical stand point Wii U could handle the game they did not want to be forced to optimize it to the point that 1GB of ram would be enough (wii U got 2 GB ram but only 1GB useable by games).

just my opinion interviewers never really try to ask about games being a launch title or being close to the launch title window
