Well, this is odd. Billboards for Mother 2, known to the rest of us as Earthbound, have popped up in Tokyo, advertising the game’s imminent release on the Wii U Virtual Console in its home country.

Huh. It seems odd to me that Nintendo would be advertising a Virtual Console game on the streets of Tokyo. Sure, this is a game I’ve been anxiously anticipating for years, but it IS still just a digital release of an Super Famicom game. Then again, the online market in Japan is just a fraction of the online market here in the West, so maybe advertising that a popular game is only 30 yen (about 30 cents in US money) for a limited time is the only way to sell any copies. What do you think?

About Guy Rainey

I’m Guy Rainey. I’m a hardcore Nintendo fan, a PC enthusiast, and a Sony sympathizer. Also an amateur/aspiring game creator. I love any game that puts story as the main focus of the game, so that means JRPGs are my favorite genre almost by default.

  • I really have my hopes up of this game coming to the US, I also hope that it’s going to be 30 cents here. I’d buy it in a second.

I’d honestly pay upwards of 10-15 for it, just to finally have it and be able to play. Also, playing Virtual console games is great on the Gamepad. Really digging it.

Its never coming to America; Mother 2 is rapped in so may US legality copyright issues that it will never see the light of day in the US or the UK so don’t bother hold your breath.

yup, it’s cases like the Mother Trilogy where piracy is justifiable. Played them all, amazing games.

  • Jeff

this game is a legend in japan. it’s more like they are using people’s desire to play the game on the gamepad to advertise the virtual console service

wow, cool. i’ve been saying that nintendo should advertise eshop…so i guess this is one way to do it. i would like to see eshop commercials or at least ads online. i saw a few for the 3DS eshop last year online, so they should do it with wii u, at least.

  • FrancisUnderwood0482

    HELL YEAH!

  • If you don’t re-release it in the US Nintendo, I will resort to other methods.

    • FrancisUnderwood0482

      do it, it’s worth it.

  • sexyboobies

I think it’s part of the “Let’s differentiate Wii U from Wii” campaign.

  • Dudeman

I just wish it would come to the US

  • It’s certainly better than the rest of the Wii U’s advertising campaign, which is either nonexistent or shows the console in the most unappealing way possible.

I do hope all Wii U Japanese players will pick up this game for only 30 cents!! o__0

Now for us gamers here..I do hope they can fix that legal issues with the music and what not and released it here, would pay 10$ no problem!

  • Desend

I’d pay upwards of $30-$40 for this game. I am pretty ticked that it is not coming out in North America. Seeing it on the Japanese section of Miiverse is upsetting.
