Kingdom Hearts 1.5 HD Remix - Xion

As if it wasn’t enough that Kingdom Hearts fans would be getting the first two games in the series remastered in glorious high definition in the form of Kingdom Hearts 1.5 HD Remix, it has been revealed that many of the cutscenes from 358/2 Days will also be rebuilt from scratch and included in the upcoming collection. Today we learned that these scenes run 2 hours and 50 minutes in total, which by cinematic standards could be considered a long movie. Fully voiced and partially rewritten, this may prove to be the definitive way to experience the 358/2 Days story.

Also worth noting is that the music selection accompanying Days has been rerecorded by composer Yoko Shimomura, and features live instruments throughout.

Kingdom Hearts 1.5 HD Remix includes Kingdom Hearts, Kingdom Hearts Re:Chain of Memories, and remastered cutscenes from Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days and releases March 14th, 2013 in Japan on the PlayStation 3.

About Brodie Dayton-Mills

Brodie is an amateur writer schlepping his way through school and towards the film and video game industries. He joined oprainfall as an author, but quickly chiseled out his niche on the graphics team. When he's not playing Kingdom Hearts or Fire Emblem, chances are he's watching British sci-fi.

Come on Square-Enix, do the right thing and bring this to NA and Europe.

  • So I’m confused, is Square only putting the cutscenes for 358/2 Days and not the game itself? or is the actual game in there, and everyone is saying it’s practically movie in the same vein that people have been saying that Metal Gear Solid 4 & Xenosaga I-III have been ‘practically movies’?

    • It’s ONLY the cutscenes.. which seems dumb to me because no games story has ever been properly conveyed only through it’s cutscenes (with the exception of Heavy Rain maybe… but the game is built AROUND that way of thinking)

    • Well that’s a major let down. I’ve never played the original games. (Mostly due to the ‘ew, you’ve got Disney in my Square game’ mentality I had at the time) so I was kind of excited to get into the series with this game. (I usually like going into a series in a chronological order) Anyways, thanks for clearing that up for me.

Yeah, It’s just the cutscenes. Both the original Kingdom Hearts and Re:Chain of Memories were on the PS2 and it didn’t take much for them to be ported and polished a little. Days, on the other hand was only ever on the DS and would have required tons of work to bring to the PS3. So say Square Enix execs, anyway.

How does this work? Because most of the cutscenes in Days were NOT voiced. Only a couple of FMVs. Does this mean the entire game’s cutscenes will be using the graphics of PS2 KH games AND does this mean they are calling in the voice actors for recording? Somehow I can’t see that happen for a cash-in title. We’ll see. Apart from Axel’s voice actor, the I wonder if Roxas’ and Xion’s voices will be different due to age. Then again, Roxas was in KH3D so maybe teens voices changing won’t make a difference. I still remember when Sora’s voice hadn’t broken in KH1.
