Tonight was Nintendo’s 3DS Software Showcase, and Luigi’s Mansion: Dark Moon (formerly Luigi’s Mansion 2) was among Nintendo’s first party showings, with a new trailer shown and a release window announced.

Sequel to 2001’s Luigi’s Mansion, Dark Moon makes a number of improvements to the formula established by its predecessor. These include the previously announced addition of multiple mansions, and the newly revealed, and absolutely fabulous, rainbow flashlight beam, which allows Luigi to uncover secrets.

Tonight’s trailer also revealed such quirky new enemies as hockey playing spirits and giant enemy spiders.

Luigi’s Mansion: Dark Moon is currently set for a holiday, 2012 release at retail and as a digital download on the Nintendo eShop. The new trailer can be viewed below, and 3DS owners can download the trailer on the eShop.
