Some more details and a host of screenshots have just been released for the upcoming Puella Magi Madoka Magica: The Battle Pentagram, which was recently announced for the PlayStation Vita. The game is scheduled for release in Japan sometime this winter. The Battle Pentagram will offer an original story, the prologue for which is as follows:
These are the tales of a certain magical girl burdened with the destiny of hunting witches over the centuries.
How many times has this life been repeated? Akemi Homura herself has stopped counting.
Having challenged the strongest witch in the world, Walpurgis Night, to a fight, she knew she could not win countless times.
This time while thinking it will end as it always does, she leaves it up to Kaname Madoka.
“If all five magical girls unite, shouldn’t we win even against Walpurgis Night?”
With those words in her heart, Homura rewinds time once more.
The five magical girls form a bond a cooperate together to defeat Walpurgis Night.
When the game was announced it was made clear that there would be two distinctly different modes of gameplay. During the day, you can converse with the other Puella Magi. At night, you hunt witches with your selected partner. The actions taken during both the day and night sequences will affect the bonds shared between the Puella Magi.
Namco Bandai has now shared a bit more about the battle system. In battle you will have three gauges: HP, MP, and Soul Gems. Naturally, if you run out of HP you will faint, but you can be revived using three gauges of the Soul Gem. If your partners aid you within the time limit however, it will consume only one gauge. MP is depleted by using special magic attacks. While it will recover over time, you may use one gauge of your Soul Gem to recover it immediately. Your remaining Soul Gems are displayed at the bottom left of the screen. Should you deplete them all, you can no longer revive or recover your magic.
Along with these new details, quite a few debut screenshots were also released. Be sure to check them out below and stay tuned for more news about Puella Magi Madoka Magica: The Battle Pentagram!
