XSEED Games has released a video of the combat tutorial for the upcoming North American release of Rune Factory 4. The video shows off several aspects of combat, including usage of both weapons and Rune abilities (which are similar to magic). Both weapons and Rune abilities can be used during battle. The tutorial also depicts several different weapon choices. Using a particular weapon to defeat enemies will earn you special abilities for that weapon along with experience points. Weapons are not effective against all enemies, however, and sometimes it’s necessary to use a variety of Rune abilities. On top of that, each weapon has its own unique rune abilities. In order to prevent monsters from continuing to spawn in a given area, you must destroy elemental gates. Destroying gates and defeating monsters is also sometimes necessary in order to move on to new areas. You can also invite your neighbors into battle with you if you need some extra help.
This the second tutorial video that has been released. The first, which explained farming, was released in June. Although Rune Factory 4 was originally set for a North American release this summer, XSEED Games decided to push the release back to this fall and explained this was for quality assurance reasons, although they promise it’s worth the wait.
