Fans of the Final Fantasy series all know the story of Versus XIII, Square Enix’s long awaited action adventure JRPG. Versus XIII was a promised title based on the Fabula Nova Crystallis mythology back in 2006, the same setting shared by the other Final Fantasy XIII titles. Being labeled as the Duke Nukem Forever of JRPGs by many in the press, Versus XIII‘s development has been hampered by numerous delays and a game engine swap. There is also a possible switch to a next generation console, as some rumors have surfaced. Now the title may have taken another interesting turn, as Amazon has now stopped selling the title directly in both the West, and in Japan.

For the longest time Versus XIII‘s development has been kept in dark, with little information given by Square Enix and the game’s director, Tetsuya Nomura. This new Amazon development is just one of the many of unusual events that simply came out of nowhere. Amazon was selling the game a few days ago, and continues to point buyers to other retailers that still carry the title.

What can this all mean? Amazon is still allowing pre-orders of another new title, Lightning Returns, as well as the HD-remakes of Final Fantasy X and X-2.

Square Enix have also started to advertise Versus XIII as well, like the Noctis brand perfume, which leaves little doubt that Versus XIII is being readied for release. We will just have to wait and see what this new development entitles, as more information should be issued in the near future.
