Studio Ghibli fans rejoice! The US trailer for the studio’s newest film From Up On Poppy Hill was just released, and it does not disappoint. The visuals look beautiful, and the English dub sounds polished. See the trailer for yourself below.
From Up On Poppy Hill is the second Ghibli film directed by Goro Miyazaki (son of the prolific Hayao Miyazaki, who wrote the screenplay) and is the studio’s 17th feature film to date. The story focuses on a young girl named Umi who lives in 1960’s Japan. As the country prepares for the 1964 Olympic Games, Umi struggles with loss, love, and how the two can become intertwined. The trailer seems to promise that there will be no lack of dramatic tension and heartwarming (and/or heartbreaking) scenes.
Although it’s just now seeing a US release, the film came out in Japan back in 2011. It’s uncertain right now just how many American theaters will be showing From Up On Poppy Hill, but the release will be limited, so keep your fingers crossed that it’s coming to a theater near you! The official release date is March 15th, 2013.
