As oprainfall’s resident genie fanboy, I had to be the one to write up Shantae 5‘s snazzy new trailer. I’ve been a fan of the series from the start, and though I don’t hold each entry in equal esteem, I am always looking forward to more Shantae. It’s been a colorful and crazy series, and I love how creative it can get. While details for Shantae 5 are still very sparse, we do know it’s coming to the following systems – PC, Nintendo Switch, PS4, Xbox One and Apple Arcade. I fervently hope it’s coming sooner than later, but I suspect it’ll be sometime in 2020 if we’re lucky.
That said, the new trailer has gone live at the Anime Expo today, and it’s a thing of beauty. Animated by Studio TRIGGER, known for KILL La KILL and Little Witch Academia, it shows mayhem and fun courtesy of everybody’s favorite pirate, Risky Boots. While the art style is distinctly different from what I’ve come to expect from WayForward in the past, it’s still quite attractive. And it seems to me that one of the draws of Shantae 5 might just be 5 playable characters, perhaps finally including her Uncle Mimic.
