BEST HEROINE
Previous Winners
2016: Neptune (Megadimension Neptunia VII)
2017: Futaba (Persona 5)
There were many heroines throughout the various games that released last year. Here at oprainfall, we all have our favorite female characters and there’s never a shortage of them. But these nominees are the the ones who we found to be most exceptional. They are all great in their own right and deserve the honor of being nominated best heroine. These heroines were nominated for both their actions and for merely being great people every day. And without further ado, here are the top five nominees.
Primrose (Octopath Traveler)
NA Release Date: July 13th, 2018
Platform(s): Nintendo Switch
Review
Right from the start of her story, Primrose is independent and strong. She has to be to get done what she’s set out to do. Her father having been murdered, she leaves her home and runs off to find out why and who did it. She works for years as a dancer under a less than decent boss, so she can find the people she feels might lead her to the answers she seeks. We also see in the very beginning that she’s a loyal person, in addition to being resilient.
Jade (Dragon Quest XI)
NA Release Date: September 4th, 2018
Platform(s): PS4, PC
Review
Jade is a strong fighter who lived for years thinking the Luminary is gone and thus travels with Rab, searching for some way to keep their world safe. She doesn’t let her failures hold her back, she just keeps on going. Once she does finally find the Luminary, she dedicates herself to protecting him as well as the other people she cares about.
Lora (Torna ~The Golden Country)
NA Release Date: September 14th, 2018
Platform(s): Nintendo Switch
Lora is Jin’s driver, who she’s extremely loyal to, as he is to her. She sees Blades as equals, people to work together with and make friends with. There are other people in their world who don’t see things the same and think of Blades merely as tools. Lora understands they are much more than that. She and Jin form an unbreakable bond and end up on a journey to help Addam in stopping Malos from causing chaos.
Vivian (The Alliance Alive)
NA Release Date: March 27th, 2018
Platform(s): 3DS
Review
Vivian is a lot like our previous best heroine nominee. She’s a daemon who comes from a place where most daemons feel threatened by the humans gaining power. Those daemons decided to rule over the world and do their best to make sure the humans never rise up. When The Alliance Alive starts, humans are treated like trash by daemons and beastfolk. They’re considered second class citizens. Vivian though, sees them as merely people and curious about their ways, joins them on their adventure to fight back against their oppressors.
Veronica (Dragon Quest XI)
NA Release Date: September 4th, 2018
Platform(s): PS4, PC
Review
Our final nominee is another Dragon Quest XI heroine. Veronica is snarky and witty. She’s also a very powerful mage. Her and her sister Serena were born to aid to the Luminary and they never shy away from that obligation. Veronica will do absolutely anything to keep him safe, along with her sister and the new allies they make on their journey.
And this year’s best heroine is….
Jade!
In the end, Jade has won the hearts of oprainfall. For being the determined and awesome woman that she is, we have chosen her as 2018’s best heroine. We found her to have respectable character and she’s just plain likable. She’s one of the best characters Dragon Quest XI has to offer.
