Nintendo surprised the gaming world yesterday with not only the announcement of the SNES Mini, but also the fact that it will come packed with the unreleased StarFox 2. This announcement came first for North America, followed by Europe, and last Japan with the equivalent Super Famicom Mini. Even better, Nintendo released official Super Famicom artwork for StarFox 2, a nice exclamation point for a game finally getting its moment in the sun.
As you can see, Fox, Falco, Slippy and Peppy return from the original game, along with villain Andross leering in the vast emptiness in space. You may also notice two female characters standing side-by-side Team Star Fox. These characters have not appeared in any subsequent Star Fox game, so it’s awesome to finally be introduced to the world along with this game for the very first time.
StarFox 2 launches as part of the SNES Mini on September 29 and Super Famicom Mini on October 5.
