Fuji TV livestreamed a noitaminA Project Unveiling event. During the event, it was announced that a new anime for Kabaneri of the Iron Fortress was green-lit. In addition to this news, two compilation films and a drama CD which continues the original anime’s story are also in production.
Kabaneri of the Iron Fortress was produced by Wit Studio and directed by Tetsuro Araki, the team famously known for producing the Attack on Titan anime adaptation.
Amazon describes the series as follows:
During the industrial revolution, mankind is threatened by a sudden emergence of undead monsters who can only be killed by piercing their heart through an iron plate. Those bitten become one of them. Called “Kabane,” these monsters exploded in number. The Hinomoto people built fortress stations and barricaded themselves inside. Only steam locomotives, the Hayajiros, can travel between them.
A trailer was also released for the announcement. You can check that out below.
The original anime ran from April 2016 to June 2016 with a total of 12 episodes. The series was streamed by Amazon on their Amazon Prime Instant Video Service in North America. Kabaneri of the Iron Fortress is licensed for release on Blu-ray and DVD by Funimation and Crunchyroll.
