New Dragon Quest VIII trailers have dropped in English, showing off the voices and moves of Red and Morrie. These two characters were in the previous version, though never joined the main party, doing their own thing with some interaction with the party.
Red is an old friend of Yangus, though things ended a bit sour between the two. According to the trailers, she will join the party now after a certain story quest. As a party member, Red will have access to fans, a new weapon type for the game, along with Fisticuffs (no weapon), whips, and knives. In addition, she has the skill Roguery, which seems to allow her to call on her men to attack foes for her, like with cannons.
Morrie on the other hand technically never appeared in the story of the original game. Rather, he was completely optional, and would give the hero the ability to summon monsters, capture certain types, and then have them fight in the arena for prizes. These same monster teams could then also be summoned into a real fight. As you can see in the trailer, Morrie is a bit…hyper. He is the owner of the Monster Arena, but he can be recruited in the 3DS version, possessing skills using Fisticuffs, boomerangs, clubs, the new weapon of claws, and a skill of Passion, which does allow him to call on other monsters to strike his foes down.
Dragon Quest VIII: Journey of the Cursed King is set to release on the 3DS on January 20, 2017. You can view both character trailers down below:
