Devil May Cry 4: Special Edition is set to debut globally (except for Japan, which already has the game) on June 23, 2015. It’s an enhanced version of the 2008 release that features significant additions, including:
- Playable Vergil, Trish and Lady
- Alternate costumes for Trish and Lady (preorders get them free)
- Legendary Dark Knight mode (more enemies and difficulty, previously only available in the PC build of the original game)
It’s nice to see Capcom bringing this one back, as it’s proof positive that they still believe in the game’s longevity as well as the enduring appeal of the classic version of series protagonist Dante, who was given a controversial makeover a few years back with the Ninja Theory developed DmC: Devil May Cry (click here to see what we thought of the recently released enhanced version of the reboot.)
Hidetaka Suehiro, more famously known by the monicker SWERY (Deadly Premonition, D4: Dark Dreams Don’t Die) recently tweeted about his studio Access Games’ involvement with Devil May Cry 4: Special Edition. It’s not a very detailed tweet but it shows that he and his team were definitely involved with developing the enhanced remake. Here’s the tweet:
The language he uses indicates that Access Games did a fair share of the work on this release, which is news to a lot of people. SWERY also shared his comments on Instagram. The responses to both his tweet and Instagram message show that people are surprised but also pleased and/or excited about the news. Count this writer among them!
Devil May Cry 4: Special Edition is currently available in Japan and will be available to the rest of the world on June 23, 2015.
