Totally expected result at the very top of the Media Create software chart. Super Smash Bros for 3DS goes off for nearly 1 million units in two days. It didn’t move as many 3DS units as Monster Hunter 4 did last year (276,792), but I think that’s more because those that have bought a 3DS already have done so for a Nintendo published game (nothing in particular, just any regular Nintendo game). This is just another one to add to their collection.
For the rest of the hardware chart, the Xbox One went right to its place after an opening of 25,000 units last week. Meanwhile, the PS4 experienced a pretty nice boost from the release of Destiny, which finished in second with about 91,000 units sold. Destiny also released on PS3 for just under 50,000 units but didn’t move any units this week. I think it’s fair to say that those that wanted it and could upgrade chose to upgrade to a PS4. And if they couldn’t upgrade, they settled to play it on their PS3.
For other new games, Naruto Shippuden: Ultimate Ninja Storm Revolution opened in 5th place with just over 40,000 units sold. This is the latest game in the Ultimate Ninja Storm series of Naruto games. It released for PS3 and Xbox 360 last week in Europe and yesterday in North America. It also released on Windows PC on Monday worldwide.
The final new game this week is Chain Chronicle V from Sega. This is a Vita port of one of Sega’s mobile games. Not much is known about this RPG other than it plays similar to Plants vs. Zombies and was released digitally as a free-to-play title earlier this year. If you know much about this game, leave a comment below.
As for returning games, Yo-kai Watch 2 lead the way with 47,065 units sold. Yo-kai Watch 2 can still reach 3 million before the year is out but it will need 35,400 units per week the rest of the way. Judging by how quickly it’s dropping, it might come up just short. Also, Hyrule Warriors hung on for a Top 20 spot and topped the 100,000 mark. The game will release later this week in Europe and next week in North America.
