Wow. Looks like there’s a bunch of new games that I’ll need to look up.
But before we get to that, I ask that you all please rise and salute the 3DS. Nintendo’s flagship handheld has passed the 15 million mark on the Media Create charts. Not bad for its first three years. The handheld will now focus on the next million as it marches toward passing the Game Boy Advance and Super Nintendo, both of which sold around 17 million each.
Moving on to the games, we start with Disgaea 4: Return. This is an enhanced remake of Disgaea 4: A Promise Unforgotten, which released to solid reviews in 2011. The game will feature some enhancements as well as all DLC from the PS3 game. While not yet announced for the West, NIS does have a history of bringing these remakes over. Keep an eye out for it before 2014 ends.
Topping the list is Mobile Suit Gundam: Extreme Vs. Full Boost, the PS3 port of the sequel to the Extreme Vs. arcade fighter. Given that we don’t really see Gundam games outside of Japan, if you’re interested in this, you’ll more than likely need to import.
Here’s an interesting one: Imageepoch, developers of Luminous Arc, Black Rock Shooter: The Game, and Arc Rise Fantasia have brought to Japan Toushin Toshi. This is a 3DS remake of Toushin Toshi II, which is known in the West as Tournament of the Gods. For those that have not played it, the original game is an erotic fantasy visual novel. So… take from that what you will. I’m moving on.
Below Toushin Toshi is Amagami Ebicore+, a dating simulation-mahjong game. This is the latest release in the Amagami franchise, which began in 2009 as a PS2 game and expanded in manga and anime (Note: The two anime have been licensed and distributed in North America by Sentai Filmworks). Amagami Ebocore+ is actually a port of the PSP game from 2011, which is a re-release of the PS2 game with a number of bug fixes.
The last of the new games (not including Diablo III) is Shinobi, Koutsutsu, which I can’t seem to find much on. If you do know something about this Idea Factory game, leave a comment below detailing what the game is about.
Looking forward to the upcoming weeks, we will see a number of new games as well as a major release for Sony. The PS4 will be releasing in Japan on February 22nd. Also coming to Sony consoles this month will be the Bandai Namco crossover Super Heroine Chronicle, Tecmo Koei’s Deception IV: Blood Ties, and Puyo Puyo Tetris. Over on the Nintendo side of things, Puyo Puyo Tetris will release on both Wii U and 3DS as well. The Wii U will also get Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze while the 3DS gets Dragon Quest Monsters 2.
