It wasn’t that long ago that a mysterious Wonder Momo teaser site made its appearance. The questions it raised are now being officially answered by Bandai Namco: yes, there’s a new Wonder Momo game on the way. It will be released for the PC and Android by WayForward.
That isn’t the only new announcement though. An anime series is also in the works by ShiftyLook, which Crunchyroll already has streaming rights for. Both the upcoming game and anime series will follow the adventures of Momoko, the daughter of the protagonist of the original Wonder Momo arcade game. Shiftylook already has a Wonder Momo webcomic out if you’re interested in getting to know aspiring-idol Momoko before her big screen debut.
Here is a synopsis of the series’ plot, taken from the official website:
One day, a group of aliens planning to take over the Earth invade Tokyo. Momoko, who aspires to be an idol, gets involved in the fight in an unexpected form. Warudemon, king of the alien empire, uses various tactics to hunt down Momoko and the people around her. Momoko has decided to stand up to the Warudemon, plain and simple.
While there doesn’t seem to be an official release date for the game, the anime series will premiere this February. If you want to know more, the official website has been updated and is available entirely in English as well as Japanese.
