Film-loving Berserk fans who are living in the vicinities or at Houston, Texas will want to save October 26th and 27th in their calendars, as the Alamo Drafthouse Cinema in Vintage and Mason Park will be screening all three parts of the Berserk: The Golden Age Arc trilogy in one sitting for each day. At October 26th, the films will be premiering at the Alamo in Vintage Park in its subtitled format, while the English-dubbed version will be screening the next day at the one in Mason Park. Screening will take place at 7:30 pm, and is $15.00.
Berserk: The Golden Age Arc bases itself on the entire Berserk manga series by Kentarou Miura, which is still runs today at over 37 volumes. In the first movie, Egg of the King, main character Guts’ travels as a lone mercenary leads to the fateful recruitment by a man named Griffith into his mercenary band, “The Band of the Hawk”. Here, Guts and Griffith will gain many victories while bonding together — that is, until Guts begins to question his own reasons for fighting for Griffith’s ambition.
The films are produced by Studio 4ºC (Steamboy; Catherine‘s animated cutscenes), and are directed by Toshiyuki Kubooka, whose previous works include Hideaki Anno’s Gunbuster and Nadia: Secret of the Blue Water, as well as the Lunar series amongst other works. Notably, many English actors from the original show’s dub, including the main cast, reprise their respective roles, while the Japanese version uses newer voice talents.
So if you’re a reader — who is at least 18 or over — from the Houston area and you’re either a fan of Berserk or anime in general, you can look forward to October 26th and 27th to support theatrical anime screenings in addition to the Sentai Anime nights that they have at the third Monday of every month.
