Shikimori’s Not Just a Cutie
What a charming, wholesome show this is. Gorgeous character designs are the real highlight here, with good animation and voice acting. Shikimori and Izumi are a cute couple, and it’s refreshing to have a rom-com start off with the lead duo all ready in an established relationship. The gimmick here is that Izumi has incredibly bad luck and Shikomori is constantly saving him – and looking really badass while doing it. All she wants is for Izumi to call her cute, and he wants to protect her for once. It’s a fun dynamic and both leads are very likeable. The premise itself is a bit thin, though thankfully each episode doesn’t lean into Izumi’s misfortune too much. Overall this is the kind of show I’d turn on for a spot of mindless cuteness, but it doesn’t have the emotional investment of, say, Komi Can’t Communicate. Worth checking out if you enjoy rom-coms or cute girls looking badass while saving their boyfriends from physical harm. – Leah

Love After World Domination
Things have gotten quiet between the two sides and Desumi and Fudo haven’t seen each other in a while. Word has gotten out about a secret development at Gekko and Fudo eagerly volunteers to infiltrate their base, where he finds Desumi. While they are glad to spend time together, things of course go awry. Fudo ends ups completing his mission after accidentally handling one of Desumi’s possessions. This episode gave a bit more time to some of the Gekko’s members, such as Culverin Bear getting a few bits, along with others finally being introduced. Three of the other Gekko Princesses finally appear, though in a very limited way. Eventually, Fudo and Desumi have a nice outing at an amusement park after a short skirmish. The episode ends on a nice tease (and a phone call with Fudo’s mom) with one character seemingly getting somewhat suspicious of Fudo. Going off the manga, the next part will be interesting to see. – Walter

Ya Boy Kongming! (Paripi Kōmei)
Staying strong in the next two episodes, Kongming has helped Eiko – who was given a bad spot at a festival – to turn the tables and have the show bring in a crowd. He even helps a competing act, which was funny as they in turn said how much they like him after initially challenging him. Eiko then gets an offer from a music producer and goes for a chance to be at an even bigger musical festival in the Summer, the catch being she has to get over 100,000 likes online to show her following. While she goes for it, Kongming seems a bit distant and is somewhat less involved. At work, Eiko notices that he’s going out more and partying. He then invites her for a night out in Roppongi and she sees how he’s quite known in the club scene out there. He reveals that he wanted Eiko to focus on her music, not to mention how he has found a lead to help her make it to the festival. Kongming in his usual dress and demeanor is always interesting to see in the club and with other partygoers, something Eiko is even surprised by. It’ll be interesting to see how a new character will get involved in Eiko’s music. – Walter

The Demon Girl Next Door Season 2
Momo comes to help set up the internet for Yuko’s sister and we again get to see how little the demon girl understands computers. Momo attempts to teach her about the dangers of the internet, which of course frightens her – though she does make a social media account and eventually gets to add Momo to it after some trouble. After talking with Lilith, it is decided that she will be taking over Yuko’s body for a day. After convincing Yuko to buy her some clothes (after tricking her about payments), Lilith appears while in Shamiko’s body. You can tell how different she is from how she acts and provides some good moments. She spends much of the time getting on Momo’s nerves. Unable to make it to a hot spring, they end up settling for a health spa once again as we learn more about Lilith. It was another good episode and seeing Lilith controlling Yuko’s body was interesting, hopefully we get to see it again sometime later. – Walter
