So, we do get a bit of a bounce back after the free fall we experienced the last few weeks in the Media Create charts. It’s not much, but it’s better than where we were.
Consoles recovered a bit, with the 3DS, Vita, PS3, and Wii U making significant gains from last week. The 3DS, in particular, was helped with a Theatrhythm bundle that released with the game. Overall, console sales are up about 18,000 from the previous week and about 8,300 above two weeks ago.
Moving over to software, this week’s big winner is Sword Art Online: Hollow Fragment, selling 145,029 units in it’s first weekend. SAO: Hollow Fragment was recently announced for localization and will release in North America later this year.
Coming in second is Square Enix’s 3DS rhythm game, Theatrhythm Final Fantasy: Curtain Call. This is a sequel to the game, featuring over 200 songs and a new versus battle mode. It will release in both North America and Europe later this year.
One of the more interesting new releases is Famicom Remix 1+2. This is a retail version of the digital Remix games — known to us in the West as NES Remix and NES Remix 2. This version sold 11,079 units, good for 6th place.
Coming in right behind is the Vita port of BlazBlue: Chrono Phantasma. The PS3 version has been out in Japan since October of 2013, as well as releasing in the past month and a half in the West (including Europe’s release last week). The Vita port will be coming to North America on June 24th.
Next, we have Monster Hunter: Frontier GG – Premium Package for the PS3. This is an update to the MMO Monster Hunter: Frontier G, not a PS3 port of Frontier G2, which released last year on PC and Xbox 360. A Western release for this title is doubtful.
MapleStory 3DS is next, selling 4,203 units. This is the second Nintendo console game based on the free-to-play MMORPG originally developed by Wizet. This was developed by the MMORPG’s publisher Nexon and has already seen a release in South Korea. No word on if this will ever reach Western audiences.
Next is Nippon Ichi Software’s Harem Tengoku da to Omottara Yandere Jigoku Datta. This is a horror game that has been compared to Corpse Party. I really don’t know much more than that.
The last of the new games is Muv-Luv: Photon Flowers. This is the latest game in the visual novel series. This is the first of two releases that will be happening this year. The second, Photon Melodies, will release this summer.
As for returning games, Yo-kai Watch again takes the lead, seeing another increase in sales — 24%, to be exact — to 43,136 for a lifetime total of 798,046 units sold. Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes topped 200,000 units sold on PS3. And we unfortunately have to say goodbye for now to Fossil Fighters: Infinite Gear, as it failed to make the Top 20 this week.
