Earlier today, anime licensor Funimation was teasing a surprise on their official Facebook page if they hit 1 million likes.
Looks as if it happened, because today, Funimation has announced the acquisition of Evangelion 3.0: You Can (Not) Redo for the North American market.
Here is the official synopsis from Funimation:
Shinji awakens – fourteen years after the third impact – to an existence he does not recognize. Earth lies in ruins, yet his body has not aged a single day. Those he once fought valiantly to protect have cruelly turned against him. Nerv is nothing but a memory. Trapped in a harrowing cycle of death and rebirth, Shinji continues to courageously battle the angels – even as the world spirals toward a tragic end.
Evangelion 3.0: You Can (Not) Redo is the third of four films in the Rebuild of Evangelion tetralogy, which retells the legendary anime that originally aired in 1995. The two previous films in the series, Evangelion 1.0: You Are (Not) Alone and Evangelion 2.0: You Can (Not) Advance, were released by Funimation in 2009 and 2011, respectively, and given very limited theatrical releases to boot. However, with regard to Evangelion 3.0: You Can (Not) Redo, no release date has been given yet. We’ll keep you posted.
