Hello gamers! It’s been an interesting Summer. I haven’t been able to go more than one month in a row without buying more than 2 games, and while I love new stuff, my wallet has been crying. But gamers are masochists by nature, so I still am constantly on the lookout for great new games, no matter how much it hurts my spare cash. Today we have some new demos, sales and even some great new digital content. Let’s see what Nintendo has for us this week.
It’s odd to start a Download with demos, but that’s how we’re starting this one. First up, if you’re curious about the upcoming Miitopia for the 3DS, there is a demo you can try called the Casting Call demo. While I admit the game looks fun, the price point has me a bit worried. Usually simple eShop games are less than $10, but Miitopia is priced like a retail game. Here’s hoping the final version justifies that price point. The other demo is for another 3DS title (this one actually is a retail game) called Hey! PIKMIN. The delightful 2D jaunt for Olimar and company reminds me a lot of Chibi-Robo! Zip Lash, and I can’t wait to pick it up later this month. In the meantime, those on the fence should definitely try out the demo.
Next up is sales. There’s not a ton that is different from last time, but I’ll cover some of the more noteworthy games, even if they were covered before. First up is Parascientific Escape – Gear Detective (3DS), discounted to $4; for a low $4.79 you can get a basic FF Tactics clone in Mercenaries Saga 3 (3DS); for $3.85 you can defy physics in Gravity+ (Wii U); for only $2, you can pick up Blasting Agent Ultimate Edition (both 3DS and Wii U); $3.99 gets you robot smashing mayhem in Vektor Wars (Wii U); shmup fans can get the fun looking FullBlast for only $2.09 (Wii U) and lastly, you can pick up the delightful retro Life of Pixel for only $4.99 (Wii U). Those are some pretty nice savings, but you can always see the full list by clicking here.
Hot on the heels of the massive success of Netflix’s Castlevania, My Nintendo is offering some bloody good savings on classic Castlevania games. Using your points, you can get 40% discounts on the following classics – Castlevania, Castlevania II: Simon’s Quest and Castlevania III: Dracula’s Curse. All three games are great in different ways, though I would recommend trying out Castlevania III first. The first two games are crazy difficult.
If you want to use your My Nintendo points other ways, there are also 3 new ARMS wallpapers, though only two are worthwhile. The Spring Man and Min Min wallpapers are great, but the other one is just a standard and pretty featureless black wallpaper. Take a look below. Or if you’re looking for a new Theme on your 3DS, there is a new Hey! PIKMIN one to pick up (sadly you can’t use My Nintendo points to do so).
Finally, there are a TON of new digital games to check out this week. First up, let’s see what’s new for the Switch. If you like retro, you can pick up ACA NEOGEO FATAL FURY SPECIAL; if you’re feeling more inclined to play a simple yet fun puzzle game, you might want to check out I and Me; if you want something totally different, De Mambo has one button multiplayer mayhem; if you like multiplayer with more robot destruction, try Death Squared. On the 3DS side of things, there are 3 games worth trying out. First up is a simple RPG in Asdivine Cross; for roguelike fans, Bit Dungeon+ is there for you; and last but certainly not least, the fantastic Cursed Castilla EX is finally on the 3DS. So if you wanted a new Ghouls ‘n Ghosts, check that last one out.
