Thursday has become Nintendo Download day, which is perfectly fine with me. I love having a dedicated day to cull through new releases and find the stuff that looks most interesting. While far from everything is amazing, it’s my job to unearth the hidden gems and show them off to discerning fans. So let’s see what I dug up today, shall we?

First up is a new release I am quite excited for – Wonder Boy: The Dragon’s Trap! This classic series is given a new coat of paint and looks absolutely fantastic. It’s oldschool metroidvania styled platforming, and that’s just how I like my games. It’s also available on the Nintendo Switch (also on PS4 and XBox One, if you prefer). I think this one looks perfectly suited to play on my new Switch, and highly recommend you check it out. However, if you want something totally different, you can try out Urban Trial Freestyle 2 on the 3DS. Normally I wouldn’t bother mentioning a sport or racing related game, but I rather enjoyed the first one way back when. You can do some crazy difficult tricks, and it keeps things interesting with various game modes to test your luck against. Best of all, this sequel has about twice as many levels as well as the series standard level editor. And if you still aren’t sure, you can try out a demo for free!

On the sales front, there are some interesting titles to check out this week. The quirky looking puzzle game Back to Bed is discounted from $9.99 to $4.99 for Wii U; dungeon crawler Quest of Dungeons is discounted from $8.99 to $5.84 for both Wii U and 3DS; Shadow Puppeteer is discounted from $14.99 to $10.49 for Wii U; Trine: Enchanted Edition is discounted from $14.99 to $7.49 for Wii U and Trine 2: Director’s Cut is discounted from $19.99 to $9.99 for Wii U. That’s not a bad variety of games, but if you want more, check out the full list here (and enjoy all the shovelware).

While there are no giant promotions this week, there are a few games to mention in closing. Oddly, only one of these is for Switch, but considering it’s been getting a lot of new titles in the past month, I suppose that’s forgivable. If you like to hack and slash old school, then you should check ACA NEOGEO FATAL FURY; for the puzzle oriented, check out Pic-a-Pix Color for 3DS and Wii U; if you like retro on your handheld, look into the Blasting Agent: Ultimate Edition demo for your 3DS; for nostalgia, maybe check out Rayman 3 and Rayman Advance on the Wii U Virtual Console; and last but not least, for those who like totally strange and inappropriate titles, look no further than Zombeer, which strongly looks to borrow style from The House of the Dead: Overkill.

Bet you never expected to see Zombie hookers on Nintendo, huh?

So that’s it for this week! I know I’m very excited to pick up Wonder Boy, but there are lots of other options this week as well. Plus we finally saw more of a focus on 3DS and Wii U again, which is a nice change of pace. Stay tuned to oprainfall next time for more Nintendo Download savings!
