With Spring in the air and Easter round the corner, it makes sense that Nintendo has a plentiful variety of new games this week! There are a bunch of great new indie games, some fun demos, though not much in the way of bargains. But that’s ok so long as there are fun new experiences to be had. Let’s start with one of particular interest.

Nintendo Download | Mr. Shifty

A little while back our own Ashley did an Impressions piece for tinybuild’s Mr. Shifty, a fun and challenging action game. Well, the good news is, now Mr. Shifty is officially out on the Switch! And while it’s also coming to other platforms, it seems a very good fit for the fledgling system. If you’re not convinced, stay tuned in the coming weeks for our official review. Another most worthy release this week is BYE-BYE BOXBOY. I’ve been a fan of that series since HAL Laboratory first seemingly created it out of thin air. While I’m sad this is slated to be the last entry, I am glad that the series will get a fitting send off. On the topic of HAL Laboratory, you can also try out the free to start Team Kirby Clash Deluxe, which is an upgraded form of the previously released beat-em up experience. This one looks to be more meaty, but I still wasn’t a huge fan of the first version. Lastly, fans of classic puzzling can try out the Switch demo of Puyo Puyo Tetris. This mashup of two classic series looks really fun and vibrant, and I can’t wait to try out the demo I downloaded the other day.

Normally this would be where I mention bargains and savings, but this week there are apparently none. Which is unfortunate, but it let’s me focus on the event happening this weekend – National Streetpass Weekend. Do something other than hunting Easter eggs this week and bring your 3DS to Nintendo Zones to get special tags. Cause honestly, there’s no bad time to have a fun portable system with you.

Nintendo Download | My Nintendo Savings

If you make use of My Nintendo (I still preferred Club Nintendo) you can pick up some new rewards. Since eggs are kind of thematic this week, the games featured are Yoshi related. You can snag 30% discounts on Super Mario World and Yoshi’s Island: Super Mario Advance 3! If you like themes, you can also snag a Yoshi’s Springtime Siesta theme, which I already know I’ll be picking up. You can also redeem points to get official guides to games such as Animal Crossing: New Leaf and The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker HD. So if you’ve got points to spare, you might as well go and use them.

For those who like their Fire Emblem mobile, there is a new Summoning event happening starting tomorrow. This Heroes event will let you get characters from Fire Emblem Echoes: Shadows of Valentia, including Alm, Clair, Faye and Lukas. New updates will also roll out, including a new feature called Hero Merit. Be sure to check that out starting tomorrow!

Nintendo Download | Samurai Showdown IV

Last but not least, there are a couple new games to mention this week on the eShop. For the retro inclined, ACA NEOGEO SAMURAI SHOWDOWN IV brings all the fun of the arcade to your Switch, for a reasonable price. And if you want to see something truly strange, check out Scoop’n Birds. Words don’t do this odd concept justice, so you should take a quick look.

That’s it for this week! Enjoy your Spring savings and stay tuned to oprainfall for more Nintendo goodies, especially as a bunch of games release this Summer!
