I have a bit of mixed feelings about this announcement. On the one hand, I absolutely love having more Box Boy to play. That series surprised the hell out of me by being compelling, complex and just delightful. I beat the first one, am working on the 2nd, and suddenly the last one is out today! Which is good, but also bittersweet. I’ve really grown attached to Qbby and his friends.

Bye-Bye Box Boy | Farewell
Farewell, sweet Qbby…

On the plus side, Bye-Bye Box Boy does have some nifty features for fans. For one thing, it supports amiibo integration from the Kirby series (that’s what happens when HAL Laboratory makes both!). You can get skins for Kirby, Waddle Dee, Meta Knight and the big penguin himself, King Dedede! That’s pretty awesome if you already own those amiibo, or great incentive to snag them if you don’t.

SO CUTE!!!

Lastly, if you have save files for the previous games in the Box Boy series, you can get old school filters to play the game with. One has it look like you’re playing on a classic Game Boy!

I know I’m gonna be picking up Bye-Bye Box Boy as soon as I get home. Help me and HAL Laboratory give the cube gentleman a fitting farewell!
