Haruhi Suzumiya

Here’s some good news for fans of the SOS Brigade, The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya will be released for home video once again. Set for release on September 13, it now being licensed by Funimation. The anime which is based off of the light novels written by Nagaru Tanigawa and illustrated Noizi Ito, first aired ten years ago. The series is about a cynical high school student named Kyon who is reluctantly dragged around by the eccentric Haruhi Suzmiya who’s interested only in the supernatural. Unfortunately for Kyon, it turns out such phenomenon are real and seem to follow Haruhi.

A collectors edition was also announced.

The collector’s edition will include the two seasons of The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzuimiya, the spin-off shorts The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya-chan, Nyoron! Churuya-san, and last year’s spin-off The Disappearance of Nagato Yuki-chan on Blu-Ray. A filler box containing several art cards will also come with the collectors edition. It was also mentioned that “The filler box happens to be about the same size as a Blu-Ray case and can be removed to fit something else…”. If you’re a fan of the series you probably have a good idea of what may fit in that space. Of all the releases announced, the film The Disappearance of Haruhi Suzumiya was left unmentioned.
