Cardcaptor Sakura | New Anime Project

Cardcaptor Sakura | Omnibus Book 1

The July issue of Kodansha’s Nakayoshi magazine is announcing some big news for the Cardcaptor Sakura series on June 3. In the newest issue it has been revealed that the manga series will be receiving a new anime project.

No other information is being revealed about the project in this issue. More details on the project will be revealed at a later date.

This year marks the 20th anniversary of the Cardcaptor Sakura manga. A sequel manga for the series was announced earlier this year.

The sequel manga will follow Sakura Kinomoto in her first year of junior high school. It is scheduled to launch in the July issue of Nakayoshi magazine, the same issue as the anime announcement.

The original Cardcaptor Sakura manga was written by CLAMP and published by Kodansha. It was first released in May 1996 and ran until June 2000. The series had a total of 12 volumes. The manga is currently licensed for release in English by Dark Horse Comics. They released the series in omnibus format.

The first anime adaptation was produced by animation studio Madhouse. It ran from April 1998 to March 2000. The anime had a total of 70 episodes.

The manga also inspired two animated films. The first was released in 1999 and titled Cardcaptor Sakura: The Movie. The second film was released in 2001 and titled Cardcaptor Sakura: The Sealed Card. Both films were produced by Madhouse.

The anime series is currently licensed for release in North America by NIS America. NIS America re-released the series in a Blu-ray Premium Edition and a DVD Standard Edition.
