Shin Mario Tensei april fools

Shortly in the wake of Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE, Nintendo and Atlus have revealed their next collaboration project, titled Shin Mario Tensei.

The project is a crossover of the Super Mario and Shin Megami Tensei series, starring Nintendo icon Mario stumbling his way through a post-apocalyptic, demon-infested Mushroom Kingdom. Bowser and Princess Peach have been taken over by the spirits of Lucifer and YHVH, respectively, and the resulting war between them has thrown the entire kingdom into chaos and ruin.

The full plot synopsis is as follows:

One day, everything was as it should be in the Mushroom Kingdom. But, overnight, that all changed. As the spirits of mighty demons descended upon the kingdom, seizing Bowser and Princess Peach, war began. Seemingly within minutes, everything changed, as the entire kingdom became blasted and ruined, and demons roamed the streets, killing left and right as they pleased.

Within the ruin and chaos, stood a lone champion: Mario. But will he save the kingdom, or bring even further destruction and anarchy? Or will he seize the throne and rule the kingdom with an unflinching iron fist?

It’s time to make a choice. Will you side with Bowser, and usher in an era of anarchy, where only the strong survive? Or will you side with the Kingdom, and bring about a tyrannical rule, crushing all those who would step out of line?

Or will you forge your own path, rejecting these hard and fast rules? Will you bring balance to these opposed forces, and bring about a new age?

It’s up to you to choose your destiny.

No indication was given for a release window, but Shin Mario Tensei will launch on Wii U first in Japan with physical and digital versions, followed by North American and European digital-only releases sometime afterwards.
