Mirage: Arcane Magic

Mirage Arcane Warfare

At GDC 2016 I got to sit down with Torn Banner Studios, the creators of Chivalry, to discuss their upcoming PC game Mirage: Arcane Warfare. The game can be described as a skill-based multiplayer FPS. However, Mirage seems to do away with classic FPS rules and instead do things a little different.

Mirage focuses on balancing the field and force players to strategically plan their next moves. All Magical and Melee attacks can be blocked or dodged, but this requires players to master their timing when an opponent is charging in for a kill. The map has been designed to create an even playing field for each team whether they are defending or attacking. Each battleground will have different areas accessible if missions are completed. For example if the base has been lost by the defending team, a second area of the map will open up with a the mission to push a bomb to a certain location for victory.

The team has spent a great deal of time on the continuity between maps and lore. For the players that to know why magic exists in this world or why certain classes hate each other, the lore is there for you. Additionally the game will be playable in a third person view, but the developers are  focused on making it a first person experience. I didn’t get hands on time with the build because the team was focused on just showing me all the different mechanics of the game. However Mirage is now on Operation Rainfall’s radar and we’ll update you as more information becomes available.

Mirage: Arcane Warfare will be be headed to PC in 2016.
