The official website for the Berserk anime has revealed some new details for the upcoming anime. The new anime has been confirmed to be a TV series and will premiere in July. It will first air on WOWOW. After that the anime will air on MBS’ “Animeism” programming block. The anime will be titled Berserk, the same as the 1997 anime adaptation.

The new anime will depict Guts in his “Black Swordsman” appearance. This appearance is only revealed in parts of the manga. The appearance has only been hinted at in the 1997 anime, in the first and last episodes.

The official website for the anime released a teaser PV back in December. You can check that out below.

The Berserk manga is written and illustrated by Kentaro Miura. It is published by Hakusensha under their Jets Comic imprint. The manga was first published from 1989 to 1992 in Monthly Animal House. It is currently published in Young Arrival magazine. It currently has 37 volumes released. The manga is licensed for release in North America by Dark Horse Comics.

The Berserk manga is currently on hiatus. Miura said the next chapter would arrive “around” this summer.

Berserk has inspired two different anime adaptations. The first was a 1997 TV anime series produced by OLM, Inc. The 1997 anime ran for 25 episodes. The other anime adaptation was a film trilogy titled Berserk: The Golden Age Arc. The films depicted Guts’ time while he was a part of the Band of Hawks. These films were produced by Studio 4°C and are licensed for release in North America by Viz Media.

The new Berserk anime is set to premiere in July 2016. If you’re interested in the anime at all please check out the official website HERE and official Twitter HERE.
