Adventures of Mana

Sad news for PlayStation Vita owners: Square Enix’s remake of Final Fantasy Adventure is headed to western shores as Adventures of Mana, but it seems to be leaving the Vita port in Japan. Though the Japanese site for the game lists the release platforms as iOS, Android, and PS Vita, it is conspicuously absent from the English language version of the same site. Given that the Mana series is an Action-RPG franchise, this means the only way to play it in North America will be using touch controls. Needless to say, this revelation is more than a little disappointing for those who prefer a physical controller. Here’s hoping the touch controls are well-implemented!

Final Fantasy Adventure is the first game in the Mana or Seiken Densetsu series, released on the Game Boy in 1991. The game received a remake once before in 2003 on the Game Boy Advance, entitled Sword of Mana, and was co-developed by Square Enix and Brownie Brown, though that game had a fairly lukewarm reception. Adventures of Mana ditches sprites this time around in favor of a 3D graphical style that actually captures the art fairly well, at least in this author’s estimation. Check out the Japanese trailer below. Adventures of Mana has yet to receive a solid release date, but we’ll be sure to keep you posted!
